It's A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving tradition

"What kind of Thanksgiving dinner is this? Where's the turkey, Chuck? Don't you know anything about Thanksgiving dinners? Where's the mashed potatoes? Where's the cranberry sauce? Where's the pumpkin pie?"

Those words are never heard at our house. Each year, its tradition that our family sits down to an early Thanksgiving dinner, but no one complains about the lack of turkey and all the fixings. That's because it's a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving!

When I was younger, I loved watching the holiday special on TV each year. I thought it would be a fun idea to share my childhood memories with my children. So I gathered the supplies to make a dinner just like Snoopy did.

If you have seen the holiday special, you know that Peppermint Patty invites herself over to Charlie Brown's house for Thanksgiving dinner, but Charlie Brown is supposed to be going to his Grandmothers house. To solve his dilemma, he prepares his own Thanksgiving feast. Only one problem. He doesn't know how to cook! So with Snoopy's help, they make large portions of toast, popcorn, pretzels, jelly beans and ice cream sundaes!

Carrying out this tradition is pretty easy. I spread out a quilt on the floor in front of the TV and prepare all the treats.
Then we all sit down and watch Charlie Brown while we enjoy our feast together.

I purchased the show on DVD so that we were free to enjoy our tradition at our convenience. But if you don't have that, you can watch it tonight on ABC.

I have been preparing and serving a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving feast for several years now. It is a favorite with all of our kids... and the parents too! Hope you have as much fun doing it as we do!
